Diesel Showings
By pages | February 9, 2010
Diesel is one of the longest standing and established denim labels in the world. Since the company’s inception in 1978, Diesel has expanded into a multi faceted brand with their name on everything from underwear to fragrances. This was particularly evident when attending the press showing last week.

The girls had set up the showroom impeccably, completely showcasing all these different areas. The menswear is particularly strong, with quite a fashion forward focus this season. Of course anything bright and slightly sporty will catch my attention, like this teal parka. So good!

Delfina Delettrez
By pages | February 9, 2010
Delfina Delettrez is a name we have been seeing a bit lately. Her jewellery is making a mark on everyone in the pages office and beyond. Ever since spotting it on shopping mecca site, Luisa Via Roma, we have been lusting over it. Ryan has featured the amazing red lip earrings in his latest Picks and is planning ways to get his hands on some asap!

Little did we know how well connected this twenty year old is. Only after a bit of stalker research did we find out Delettrez is Miss Delfina’s fathers name, while her mother’s last name is Fendi. A fourth generation Fendi, it seems style is in her blood line. Already with three placements at the style office for Chanel Haute Couture under her belt, and more Fendi fashion shows than one could ever imagine.

Yulli’s Surry Hills
By pages | February 8, 2010
It’s not often that you can go to a strictly vegetarian restaurant with three strictly non-vegetarians and still proclaim it one of the best meals in a long while. Saturday is a hard night to organise dinner, and also for trying new places. Luckily we got a cancelled booking at packed out Yulli’s in Surry Hills.

Relatively new to the scene, thanks to the changed licensing laws, Yulli’s is an all vego feast! With sharing as their aim, the menu is varied with tapas style dishes. Between four we shared a rocket salad, baby burritos, haloumi, dolmades, procini and haloumi pizza, and the piece de resistance, eggplant involtini served on roti. Amazing!

Unfortunately there was no room for dessert, but always ample room to sample the extensive alcohol list. In keeping
with the steamy weather, we decided to go for the beer option for optimum refreshment. It worked! Next time we will make sure to leave room for the white Belgian chocolate caramel slice… mmmm.

What Will Happen To Versace?
By pages | February 8, 2010
Allegra Beck Versace is in the middle of speculation about what indeed will happen to the House of Versace in years to come. After her uncle Gianni’s murder in 1997, Allegra was given a 50% stake in the Versace company, leaving her the prime share holder.

However, it seems that Allegra has no desire to join the family business, instead pursuing her dream of becoming an actress. In a recent Wall Street Journal article, Deborah Ball speaks of how Donatella told her daughter that if she hadn’t succeeded in her acting dreams by age 24 then she had to return home from New York and work for Versace. Allegra turns 24 this June, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

Some say she would be better off to sell her share to LVMH or similar, in hope of returning the company to its former glory. The business has had such a turbulent past, with murder, drug addiction, eating disorders and out of control spending habits all adding to its demise. We truly hope they can recover and that Allegra will make the right decision.

Design of a Decade
By pages | February 8, 2010
“A decade is a long time in fashion. This is especially true of the period between the turn of a new millennium and the now. The decade that began with the year 2000 opened with some strong opposing forces at work”

In the February issue of pages, out now, Ryan Lobo muses about the fashions of the decade just passed. He reflects on the celebrity focused design culture of the early two thousands and of “red carpet” dressing. All the movers and shakers of the fashion world get a look in and it is interesting to see how much has really changed over the last ten years.
Check out the issue for the full story.

Ain’t Nothing Like The Real Thing
By pages | February 8, 2010
Well the latest collaborative adventure for Yves Saint Laurent menswear is with American photographer Bruce Weber. He was given free reign to conceptualise a short film to open the recent menswear show in Paris. More about getting naked than menswear, it features music from Marvin Gaye and a cute narrative.
Stefano Pilati has created multidimensional presentations for the past five seasons to open his menswear shows. See what you think…

Betts Shoes Showings
By pages | February 5, 2010
The lovely girls from Arc always put on a great press showing, and the latest one for Betts was no different. Held at the brand spankin’ new Tokonoma in Surry Hills, we arrived to a delightful Japanese lunch. The shoes and bags were all displayed amongst the traditional woodwork interiors.
